Get Rid of Oil With Oil

My favorite makeup remover!
Before going to beauty school, if someone were to have told me that the best way to remove makeup from my combination skin was to use a cleansing oil, I might have laughed in their face. It sounds weird, right? Why would you add more oil to oily skin? On the science spectrum of things, like dissolves like. Cleansing oils don't add oil to the skin. Sebaceous glands do. Cleansing oils attract all of the oil and debris on the skin and are then removed from the skin by getting rinsed away with water.

As a licensed esthetician working for a huge beauty company, I'm privy to trying a lot of different skin care products. Trust me, I try almost all of products that come my way. The one cleansing oil that I keep coming back to and is always on my shopping list is Dermalogica's PreCleanse. This lightweight, botanical-based cleansing oil always removes my makeup in one sweep. All of the sunscreen, long wearing liquid foundation and waterproof mascara is dissolved upon contact. After I've rinsed the product from my face with lukewarm water, my skin is always left feeling incredibly smooth.

When using Precleanse, pour a little bit of the product in the palm of your hand. A little bit really goes a long way with this stuff.  Warm up the product a bit in your hands before applying to a dry face. Gently massage PreCleanse over the entire face and eye area. PreCleanse is gentle enough to use over the eye area to breakdown hard-to-remove mascara without irritating sensitive eyes. Once the product has been applied all over the face, wet your hands and continue to massage the product onto the skin for another 10 to 15 seconds. The water will create a light, milky emulsion that will completely remove the oil, debris and dirt on the skin. When you've finished massaging, rinse with lukewarm water and gently pat dry with a clean towel.

PreCleanse never leaves any greasy residue on the face. It's one of the best makeup removers I've ever used and is perfect to use as a first step cleanser in a Double Cleansing routine. PreCleanse is free of artificial fragrances or colors and is loaded with natural ingredients like kukui nut, borage seed and rice bran oils.

Watch this video, which demonstrates how to use PreCleanse and shows just how effective it is as a makeup remover and as the first step in the Double Cleansing process.

  1. The school I'm about to go to become an esthetician is using Dermatologica. The first and last time I used a Dermatologica product (which was a mask), I broke out severely. How high do you think the chances are that I break out with all of their products?

    1. Yay for you going to school and yay for your school using Dermalogica. It's one of those magical lines that has a little something for everybody. My guess is that you will find at least a couple of products that you will fall in love with. I know I did!

One important thing to keep in mind is that you're going to do a lot of trial and error in school. Your skin will be exposed to a lot more services and products than its normally used to due to the sake of learning. My skin freaked out during school. Once I graduated and life chilled out, so did my skin.
